Sending a mobile mechanic to check out this ‘69 Corvette. It’s a real 427 car but the 427 is long gone. It comes with a built 454 that came out of a Camaro. Birdcage and frame are said to be solid and the ask is $12k CDN. Fingers crossed here. It’s in Barrington Nova Scotia. Any Oppos out there?

I’m glad you’re looking at...well just glad it’s not the one with a wrecked shell in the thumbnail to the left.

That would be a heck of a Vette. Chrome bumpers front and rear are the best years for this body style.

Not a fan. They’ll have to be undone but that will mean ruining the paint. Such is life when shopping for cheap Corvettes.

That is SO much better than that other train wreck you were thinking about!

That’s a metric fuckton better than the first you were looking at. Just check over the birdcage, body mounts, and windshield frame REALLY good, because C3s are notorious for rust in these places. Especially the windshield frame. And, just know, if the body is damaged, or you want to get rid of those crazy flares, fiberglass work costs serious $$$.

All good info! Yes, much improved over the ‘clay pot’ I was looking at earlier.

It would be interesting to know where that engine originally came from as no Camaro ever had the 454, but if it has been built correctly I guess it really doesn’t matter that much.

What trans is in it? What was it originally?

I’ll be replacing it with a year-correct 427 anyways so it doesn’t really bother me. Also I believe 1970 Camaros were offered with 454's

4 speed of some sort. Probably the original one

I reverse GIS’d it and nothing was listed in the add. They told you it had a 4 spd?

I’ve never heard of a ‘70 with any other big block than the 396 (really 402) but you’re absolutely correct. They did offer it. You learn something new every day! Ironically, I had a friend when I was in the Navy that had a ‘79 Camaro with a 427 out of a ‘69 Corvette. That was one STOUT car, but he was the exact wrong person to own it. He wasn’t really a car guy and had no interest in it other than it was fast.

If it’s in good shape, the frame is solid, all the chrome is there and in good shape, that’s not too bad a price.

What I remember most about that car, other than the front got frighteningly light at about 135mph, (we had access to the base’s runway) was that the clutch was unbelievably heavy. We had to have his girlfriend drive us home one night and she had one hell of a time with that clutch. She had to put all of her 110lbs in to it and basically stand on the pedal. In our drunken state that was hilarious.

Freaking seller fell off the face of the earth. Ad is still listed but I can’t get through to him via phone or email. I have money and a mechanic waiting to go but he won’t get back to me. Arghh.

That might say something about the car. It’s possible he’s not talking to you because he doesn’t want someone to inspect it. He may be hoping for a “stupid” buyer that sees a cool car and just goes and buys it without knowing what they’re looking at.

I thought things were odd when they had a 454 in it instead of the original 427 but didn’t change the hood numbers.

And frankly in that year the 427 was the better motor.
